CEMENTCO WRECK ADVENTURE

Originally launched as Crusader II in 1944, this ship has lived a life of true adventure. Commissioned by the Australian Army during the Pacific War, she transported heavy equipment and vital supplies to troops in New Guinea. After her wartime service, Crusader II was given a second career with Queensland Cement and Lime Co., hauling coral and sand through Moreton Bay to Brisbane.

By 1984, it was time for one final mission. Towed out to Flinders Reef to become an artificial reef, the Crusader decided to go out on her own terms—springing a leak and sinking early, about 400 metres northeast of Flinders Reef. Today, she rests on the seabed as a fascinating wreck dive, now bursting with marine life and stories from above and below the surface.

FLINDERS REEF – QUEENSLAND’S ICONIC DIVE SITE

Get ready to explore one of Queensland’s most spectacular dive locations. Flinders Reef is a vibrant underwater playground featuring dramatic walls, gutters, caves, and pinnacles covered in over 100 species of hard and soft corals, including staghorn, brain, and plate corals, along with colourful gorgonians and sponges.

Home to more than 175 species of reef fish, the reef is also frequented by stingrays, wobbegong sharks, countless invertebrates, and even the occasional manta ray. One of the highlights is the famous turtle cleaning station, where green turtles hover patiently while surgeonfish and cleaner wrasse do their work—an unforgettable sight.
