Become an SSI Navigation Specialty Diver


In this specialty program, you will gain the advanced skills and knowledge you need to safely and confidently navigate underwater. You will learn how to use a compass and natural navigation techniques, estimate distance, how to leave and return to a designated point, plus basic navigation patterns. You will also be taught how to combine navigation techniques to enhance your diving experience. All of which hones your underwater observation skills, improves your dive safety and helps you to get the most out of every dive. Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Navigation Specialty certification.

Course structure

  • Your Online Learning must be completed before the first theory day of this course
  • 1 x midweek night - Paperwork & Theory Discussion
  • 1 x day - 2 x boat dives (Tweed area)

Required equipment (not included)

  • Scuba quality mask, snorkel, fins and boots
  • Torch, compass, SMB and reel
  • BCD and weights, wetsuit, regulator and computer, cylinder (available for hire)
**Please note, if you are taking this course as part of a Divemaster plan, you will need your own BCD, Regulator, and Computer**

Important information

  • Open Water Certification required
  • All participants must complete a Medical Questionnaire prior to the course and seek clearance from a medical practitioner if necessary
  • Parent or guardian consent required for participants under 18 years
  • Your own transport for you and your equipment is required to and from course locations
